Attendance

School Attendance

It is a legal requirement that all children of school age attend school each day.  We understand that occasionally illness may prevent a child from attending school, but this must be the exception, not the rule.

School leaders and governors set an ambitious target of 96% attendance each term and closely monitor those children who become persistent absentees.  Persistent absence is always challenged and can lead to legal enforcement action if a child's attendance causes a concern over a long period.  This is a last resort; the St John's way is always to work closely with our families in the first instance to help support in the best way we can.

Holidays During Term Time

We are only able to authorise children’s absence for the most exceptional of reasons.  A holiday is not a valid excuse for children missing school.  School policy is to monitor attendance closely and take legal action where necessary.
