Enrichment Activities

Part of our ethos at St John’s is to ensure that coming to school is fun.  School should be fun for the children and the staff too!

Because of our belief in this, children are provided with regular enrichment opportunities, away from the school curriculum.

Trips

Each class goes on school visits to supplement learning in the curriculum.  In addition to that we have a whole-school visit to the pantomime at the Nottingham Playhouse each Christmas.   Recent destinations for school trips include the National Railway Museum, Conkers, Creswell Crags, Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Stratford-upon-Avon as part of our whole-school focus on William Shakespeare.

Residential Visits

Children in Year 4, 5 & 6 have the opportunity for a two-night residential visit in March every year.  To ensure children don’t visit the same destination twice we operate a three-yearly cycle.  Although our plans are always under review, the current three residential destinations are:

  • Conwy (North Wales)
  • Castleton (Peak District)
  • Scarborough.

Further Enrichment Activities

In addition to the above, some other enrichment activities enjoyed in recent years include:

  • Visit to watch Man Utd play at Old Trafford
  • Visit to watch Nottingham Forest play at the City Ground
  • Supporting charity events and fundraising
  • Maypole dancing
  • Baking
  • Gardening
  • Den building
  • Forest School
