Our Ethos and Values

Our vision for education is deeply Christian, with Jesus' promise of 'life in all its fullness' at its heart.

In line with the Church of England's role as the established Church, our vision is for the common good of the whole community.

I have come in order that you might have life - life in all its fullness.              John 10:10

Our vision is to nurture and inspire our whole school community, to use their God-given gifts, to be the best that they can be, and therefore flourish in all aspects of their lives. This is expressed through our school motto: ‘Be the BEST we can be’ which runs through everything we do in school

“Be the BEST” is lived out through the following values:

  • Believe
  • Endeavour
  • Succeed
  • Together

We strongly believe that all members of the St John’s community should strive to give their BEST in all aspects of school life.  We aim to:

Believe

I can do all this through Him who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13)

Have high expectations – and to believe that they can be achieved

Approach each day and each challenge with confidence in ourselves and others

Believe in the Christian faith and to support the ethos of the school

Endeavour

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart (Colossians 3:23)

Persevere when a task is challenging and build resilience

Challenge ourselves to achieve our BEST

Succeed

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed (Proverbs 16:3)

Enable children to thrive academically, make good progress and achieve their full potential

Create opportunities for educational and social success for all – pupils, parents and staff

Ensure all children, including those with SEND, can flourish and succeed

Celebrate success and achievement in many forms – not just academically

Together

Encourage one another and build each other up (Thessalonians 5:11)

Work together as a school community to achieve our very BEST

For the whole school community to understand the importance of fairness and respect

Values Weeks are held each term to focus on what it means to be the BEST.
